The biggest city in the South African province KwaZulu-Natal, Durban is a melting-pot of rich and diverse cultures. The Zulu name for Durban is eThekwini, which is derived from itheku, meaning ‘bay’ or ‘lagoon’. A major centre for manufacturing and tourism, and the busiest port in South Africa, Durban is also home to many coffee shops, art galleries, markets, beautiful beaches, and wonderful weather – it’s perfect to visit all year round.

Have a delicious breakfast and cappuccino at Circus Circus at 90 Snell Parade, Bay of Plenty Beach on the Golden Mile, and take in the sunrise and spectacular sea views.

Board the Durban Ricksha Bus at Bay of Plenty – North Beach, and take a scenic three-hour tour of Durban’s major attractions. Get there early so you can sit on the top deck.

Have a leisurely lunch at Moyo’s at uShaka and relish some authentic South African cuisine. Be sure to explore the pier just outside it afterwards, and keep an eye out for the sandcastle artists.

Indulge in some retail therapy at uShaka Village Walk and explore uShaka Marine World, home to a wonderful water theme park and world-class aquarium. Look out for the Phantom Ship.

Visit Moses Mabhida Stadium and enjoy spectacular views with a Skycar ride or Adventure Walk to the top of the arch. Try the Bungee Swing if you dare, or the Stadium Segway Tour.

Explore the fauna and flora of Durban Botanic Gardens, one of the oldest botanic gardens in South Africa. Wonder at the rich variety of trees, flowers, and birdlife, taking a break at the Tea Garden.

Work your way to St Clements (191 Musgrave Road). Steve’s signature noodle dishes are a must. Dine outside and enjoy live shows most Mondays and weekends.

Head off to the Durban Playhouse (29 Anton Lembede Street) to enjoy some South African theatre in the heart of the city. And you might just spot one of the stars at the coffee shop.

Make your way to Florida Road, home to a wonderful variety of restaurants, coffee shops, and plenty of entertainment. Spiga is always a popular choice.
