24 Hours in Durban
Written by Fred Felton
The biggest city in the South African province KwaZulu-Natal, Durban is a melting-pot of rich and diverse cultures. The Zulu name for Durban is eThekwini, which is derived from itheku, meaning ‘bay’ or ‘lagoon’. A major centre for manufacturing and tourism, and the busiest port in South Africa, Durban is also home to many coffee shops, art galleries, markets, beautiful beaches, and wonderful weather – it’s perfect to visit all year round.

The People Mover is a regular bus service which runs every 15 minutes along three routes in the CBD and along the beachfront.
To really discover Durban, take a walk around the art deco buildings, the many wonderful sights, and the Golden Mile.
Frequent ferries and boat cruises depart from Wilson’s Wharf for a tour of the harbour or a scenic cruise out to sea.
If you need to get around the city in a hurry, a taxi is the best choice. Uber is also available.
