24 Hours in Miami
Written by Ayesha Khan
Often referred to as ‘The Capital of Latin America’, Miami boasts the largest Spanish-speaking population in the USA, with its every corner emanating a Latin buzz. Couple that with year-round temperate weather (thanks to the Gulf Stream ocean current), and you have the ideal place for a US vacation.
The city is divided into several districts, the most notable of which are: Downtown, home to financial institutions, fine dining, and Miami’s skyline; the iconic South Beach, with its Art Deco architecture, nightlife, and beach district across Biscayne Bay from Downtown; and Midtown, the new arts and culture capital of the city.
Forget taking taxis in South Beach: SWOOP is the way to go. It’s a free ride (just tip your fun, eccentric driver whatever you feel is right). These open-air, glorified golf carts must be experienced to be believed.
The best way to get around South Beach, if you’re interested in burning some calories. Stations line the beach from 1st to 85th Street, and thousands of bikes are available 24/7. There are even optional self-guided portable audio tours.
A great way to get around if you’re shuttling between districts in Miami – from Biscayne to Brickell for example. Added bonus: they’re completely free.
