Often referred to as ‘The Capital of Latin America’, Miami boasts the largest Spanish-speaking population in the USA, with its every corner emanating a Latin buzz. Couple that with year-round temperate weather (thanks to the Gulf Stream ocean current), and you have the ideal place for a US vacation.

The city is divided into several districts, the most notable of which are: Downtown, home to financial institutions, fine dining, and Miami’s skyline; the iconic South Beach, with its Art Deco architecture, nightlife, and beach district across Biscayne Bay from Downtown; and Midtown, the new arts and culture capital of the city.

Start the day with a stunning sunrise hot-air balloon tour of the Miami skyline, Biscayne Bay, and subtropical Everglades. Some rides even offer a charming after-flight picnic.

If the early rise is getting you down, grab a roadside Cuban coffee – a potent hit of espresso topped with a caramel-sweet froth. It will keep you going all day, and is perfect paired with a pastelito, or Cuban pastry.

Hit the beach. The best spots are south of Fifth Street in South Beach or Key Biscayne. If you’re able to score an invite to the members-only SoHo Beach House, it won’t disappoint.

There is a plethora of lunch options in South Beach. For Southern fare, head to Yard Bird, and for a poolside brunch at one of the beach’s most historic hotels, try Restaurant Michael Schwartz.

Peruse the galleries (and, more importantly, the giant graffiti walls) of Wynwood Art District. If you happen to be in town the second or fourth Saturday of the month, take a two-hour guided graffiti tour.

Satisfy your inner shopaholic on Lincoln Road or head over to Bal Harbour shops for truly haute perusing. Coral Gables’ Miracle Mile features boutiques and the famed Actors’ Playhouse.

Catch a show at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts – ranging from ballet and contemporary dance to Broadway and comedy. This is the second-largest centre of its kind in the USA.

Miami has no shortage of culinary hotspots; the finest, most formal among them are The Forge and 1836. For a glam yet more buttoned-down experience, try Juvia and Mr. Chow.

Grab after-dinner drinks at Miami’s trendy Asian restaurant and bar Zuma or Hyde Beach, the bar/lounge/hotspot at the SLS Hotel, where Avicii and Robin Thicke have been known to perform
