Culture - Qatar/Brazil
Written by Oryx
Qatar Brazil 2014 is a year-long cultural exchange programme, and July welcomes the opening of two engaging exhibitions in Brazil.
from July 3
This immersive experience, which will tour the world from 2014 to 2022, and which is organised by 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum and the National Football Museum, UK, celebrates international players, coaches, and fans, as well as local football cultures. Naturally, the exhibition begins in Brazil.
Visitors will travel back to the games origin, relive the history of the World Cup, meet stars and fans, and trace the emotions and the diversity that earn footballs status as the beautiful game.
Exciting events engaging the local communities in playing the game will be a key component of the experience, with interactive activities allowing visitors to test their football skills, take a penalty kick, or lead their team to become the champion in the latest video games!

Crossing cultures and eras, the Pearls exhibition is part of the Qatar/Brazil Year of Culture, and traces the history of a pearl trade that was fundamental to Qatar for more than 7,000 years, centuries prior to the discovery of oil and gas. This heritage is still visible in Qatar today, and this rich exhibition demonstrates how people used to live when pearl diving was the only way to sustain the local economy in the Gulf.
From Roman hair ornaments to Qatari necklaces, Victorian bridal ornaments to contemporary designs, more than 200 jewels in the Pearls exhibition offer an elegant look at this luminous gem that never goes out of style. The natural history of pearls the only gem produced by a living creature is seamlessly united with their history and symbolism.
