Golden rules for wide, bright eyes…
Written by Libby Banks
Sometimes even a good night’s sleep isn’t enough. From eye brightening to erasing those pesky dark circles, here are the golden rules for wide and bright eyes.
Make up know-how
Start with concealer. Remember, it’s not just for under the eyes – apply to the inner corner and the brow bone, then blend with your finger for a quick way to brighten the whole eye area.
Next give your eyes a strong frame by focusing on the brows. Fill in any bare spots for an instant lift, and then apply highlighter to the brow bone.
Defining the lash line is a simple way to open up the eye. Using an eye pencil draw short strokes along the upper lash line and then blend with your fingertip.
Apply a shimmery nude shadow all over your lid up to the crease, and then use a lighter shade to highlight the brow bone, the inner corner of the eye, and the lower lash line.
Now it’s time for mascara. Curl the lashes well and then apply mascara starting from the roots of the top lashes and wiggle the brush to make sure you get full coverage.
Complement your eyes with a little blusher on the cheekbone and sheer lip colour.
How to buy...
Effective eye cream:
Look out for hyaluronic acid in the product ingredient list, as it’s great for plumping skin cells. Vitamins C and E are important thanks to their potent anti-ageing properties. Retinol is also great because it stimulates cell renewal and collagen production – and this means it helps to strengthen skin and reduce fine lines. One thing to note: retinol can make skin sun-sensitive, so it’s best to apply sparingly before bedtime.
With the new generation of high-tech mascaras you can style your lashes any way you fancy. There are two things you need to consider before heading to the beauty counter though: the formula and the wand. A tightly packed curvy big brush lifts lashes and coats them well. When it comes to formula, look out for mascaras that contain conditioning oils and vitamin E to keep lashes in top condition. Lightweight formulas are better at ‘lifting’ lashes for a truly wide-eyed effect.
Camouflaging eye concealer:
When trialling products, look out for dense and creamy pigments to ensure the best coverage. Also look out for concealers that have a reflective shimmer as these create an instant illuminating effect.
