As it turns out, we don’t just like fragrances for their sweet smell: they also make us feel a certain way. The sense of scent requires the least amount of processing through the various nerves of our senses  its like direct dialling right to the brain. Pleasant smells lower the heart rate, while volatile substances, like those in the scent of lemon, stimulate us when molecules quickly evaporate as they hit our olfactory nerves.

Here are five scents that are sure to have you at your best!

Citrus

While grapefruit can make you feel more youthful, other citrus smells such as orange, lemon, and bergamot have been found to combat depression, fear, and hysteria.
