How to apply eyeliner
Written by Ayesha Khan
Before you begin:
Priming the eyelid with a concealer or a skin-coloured eye shadow is the best way to avoid eyeliner mishaps or clumps.
Begin by tilting your chin upwards to get a good view of where the lash line begins. Starting at the outside corner of your eye, draw short strokes and work your way towards the inside corner. Make sure the line gets thinner as it reaches the inside corner. Smooth out any breaks in the line with an eye shadow in a similar colour and a liner brush. This will also help set the liner. If you don’t have a liner brush, the point of a cotton bud will also do the trick. If you’re also lining your bottom lash line, be sure that the two lines meet at the outer corner of the eye.
For added drama:
Fan out the top line a little further than the endpoint of the lash line.
To top it off:
Follow up with two coats of mascara for a complete, professional-looking eye.
Three fool-proof liners
Stila Kajal Eye Liner
This silky-smooth and ultra-blendable liner mimics the velvety texture of the Indian kajal (kohl). The product is best used in tandem with Stila’s #4 liner brush, and comes in three colours.
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner
The product is ideal for a vibrant, stay-on result, and comes in a vast array of colours. Unlike other liquid eyeliners, it gives you a little more time to get the line just right before it dries and stays on for good.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
Chrome is the latest trend in eyeliner, as it offers just the right amount of metallic bling to your lash line. Urban Decay’s product has the largest colour variety, and wears the longest (as the name would suggest). Be warned that it can be difficult to remove once it’s set, so it’s important to work quickly while applying.
