luxe - Aman Tokyo
Written by Oryx
Known for creating the most tranquil escapist hotels in far-flung destinations, Aman resorts makes its first urban foray into one of the busiest cities in the world.
Perched high above the Otemachi financial district, this 84-room hotel offers some of the finest views of the city, all set against Aman’s unique brand of Asian-inspired, clean-lined design. Guests enter on the 33rd floor, where they’re greeted by a 30m-tall architectural marvel designed to resemble the inside of a traditional Japanese lantern. At the base of this lantern is a tranquil indoor garden, featuring water features, ikebana planting, and traditional rock gardens – creating an air of calm among the bustling chaos of the city.
With more Michelin stars than any other city in the world, Tokyo takes its dining very seriously, and so, too, does Aman Tokyo. On the ground floor, nestled within the Otemachi forest, is the casual Café by Aman, which serves up Mediterranean fare in an al fresco setting. The Lounge by Aman, located in the hotel’s 33rd-floor lobby, serves up drinks and snacks all day, while the more formal Restaurant by Aman features gastronomic Japanese- and Mediterranean-inspired fine dining.
Other amenities include a split-level spa and fitness centre, a cigar lounge, and a well-stocked residents-only library. The expansive suites (the smallest of which is set over a lavish 141m2) feature open-plan layouts, views to the Imperial Palace, and traditional Japanese ofuro deep soaking tubs.
No one does luxury hospitality quite like Aman, and the same can be said for the Japanese capital. As an added plus, the quintessential shopping haven of Ginza is just a stone’s throw away.
