luxe - COMO Shambhala Estate, Ubud, Indonesia
Written by Oryx
With its exacting blend of revitalising spa treatments, healthy cuisine made from the finest, freshest ingredients, and adventurous walks through the Balinese jungle, COMO’s Shambhala Estate is an all-encompassing wellness destination.
At the spa, guests can choose from an array of ancient holistic therapies, from an Indian Head Massage or Taksu Massage, to Dead Sea Mud Therapy or a Javanese Royal Lulur Bath. Between treatments, guests are invited to relax beneath the thick canopy of trees by the fresh pools of Kedara, the estate’s shaded water garden. For those with specific wellness goals, a series of multi-night, customisable programmes are also on offer, including a fitness programme, a cleanse, an Ayurvedic plan, and a rejuvenation programme.
Dining is just as much a part of the experience as the treatments, with two restaurants (a traditional Indonesian and a more international option) to choose from. Nutritionists and Ayurvedic doctors are always on hand to prepare special meals for those who are on specific resort-designed diets or all-encompassing programmes. The property’s welcoming, nurturing staff also encourage guests to take a journey of cultural and scenic exploration; after all, education of the mind is another key aspect of wellbeing. Trips to the nearby artists’ haven of Ubud, yoga sessions, and guided wellness walks can all be easily arranged. comoshambhala.com
Traditional Oriental Medicine
Ranging from three to eight nights, the Traditional Oriental Medicine programme takes a holistic approach to wellbeing, with a consultation from a herbal medicine practitioner and a resulting tailor-made programme featuring acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, meditation, and qigong, a traditional Chinese exercise that combines breathing, meditation, and slow, flowing movements.
