luxe - Nam Hai, Vietnam
Written by Tom Bell
The Nam Hai is a fabulous beachside retreat with super-cool villas and a serene floating spa.
Three swimming pools form a cascade down the hill, with the dazzling white sands of China Beach at the bottom. The position here is divine: sun loungers circle the pool, huge views shoot out to sea, and at night Chinese lanterns hang in palm trees and illuminate vast terraces.
As for your own private villa, well, they’re out of this world and you may decide to hole up in blissful isolation. Some open onto the beach, others have private swimming pools, all have shaded terraces with daybeds to lounge about on. Inside, top-of-the-range luxury comes as standard, most notably in the form of four-poster beds that sit on raised platforms and overlook the ocean. Bathrooms are equally divine.
Pull yourself away for a treatment in the floating spa or join the morning yoga sessions overlooking the beach. You can work out in the gym or pick up the jogging paths that weave through 35 hectares of secluded gardens. After which, you may be in need of sustenance, so head over to one of the restaurants for tasty food from around the world. Seriously cool.
Some of Vietnam’s most glittering tourist destinations are on your doorstep, and the hotel can arrange for a guide with a car to take you for a spin. Check out the charming old town of Hoi An, where you can jump on a taxi boat and cruise the river streets. Later, head inland to visit My Son, an ancient Hindu temple complex that dates from the 4th century. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and well worth a day away from the beach.
