New Openings - Square Nine, Belgrade
Written by Oryx
Set in Belgrade’s most attractive historic district, Square Nine was the city’s first world-class luxury hotel, bringing character to a city that has long been dominated by international chains detached from the city’s charm and identity. With a cosy yet elegant ambience, all 45 rooms and apartments are furnished with comfortable Treca de Paris beds, Pratesi linen, and antique and designer furniture pieces, while all bathrooms offer an assortment of Hermès toiletries.
The fine-dining restaurant, The Square, offers modern European cuisine on the ground floor with a seasonal al fresco courtyard, and the stylish rooftop restaurant Ebisu serves authentic Japanese cuisine including expertly crafted sushi, teppanyaki grilled meat, and seafood, overlooking Belgrade’s historic neighbourhood. The hotel’s Sisley Spa includes a naturally lit 18m-long lap pool, authentic Japanese Ofuro tub, sauna and steam bath, and an assortment of Sisley massages and treatments.
Qatar Airways celebrated its 1st anniversary of flights operating from Belgrade last month. For all bookings made before January 10, 2014, Square Nine is offering a €50 restaurant credit at its restaurant The Square. Book through the website using the code: QRSQ9
Belgrade Design District
Hidden away in a derelict mall in the heart of the city is the Belgrade Design District: a collective of Serbia’s hottest young designers and artists who have taken over the space to showcase their talent. Check out Ana Ljubinkovi’s rebelliously individual collection (pictured) at store number 15.
More than just a coffee shop, the kafana is a common gathering place where many Serbs like to spend much of their time socialising. Dating back to 1823, Belgrade’s oldest kafana, named simply with a question mark, ‘?’ reflects the spirit and soul of Belgrade.
