What’s in my travel bag – Blake Mycoskie, Chief Shoe Giver: TOMS

California-based social entrepreneur Blake Mycoskie is the man behind the ‘One for One’ business model that has provided 35 million pairs of shoes to people in need around the world, from Haiti to India. Eliminating the reliance on donations, TOMS provides a person in need with a pair of shoes for every product sold, making Mycoskie a veritable modern-day Robin Hood.

With all the travelling I do year-round, there’s nothing that compares to coming home to Los Angeles and our new home in Topanga Canyon. There’s nothing happier for me than spending quality time with my beautiful wife Heather and our infant son. Being home centres me and allows me to recharge and refocus my energy.

My recent travels took me to Vancouver to attend the TED conference. I always find inspiration there, just listening to the incredible speakers and meeting innovative and interesting new people. Travel is a constant in my life, and I have trips to Mexico, Europe, and Asia to visit our offices in those locations coming up. One particular destination that I’m looking forward to is the Middle East, which I’ll soon be visiting for the first time.

The bag: I must say, ever since we launched the TOMS bag collection, I travel with my TOMS Backpack and TOMS Baby Bag Messenger all the time. These have really been a necessity since my son Summit was born last December.

My journals: The journal is something that is very personal to me, and I have been journalling every single day since I was 15 years old. It is a spiritual practice for me and helps me stay grounded and thankful for all the things that are happening in my life.

Books: such as The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, or Give and Take by Adam Grant. I find inspiration in books, especially on long flights. I’ll read anything once, but I find myself especially drawn to books about growing a successful business.

Canon EOS Rebel T4i camera: A good camera is at the top of my list these days, both for taking photos when I’m travelling and for capturing moments with my son.

My TRX fitness system:I will hook this up just about anywhere to stay in shape. I’ve literally suspended it from a tree!

TOMS Noah sunglasses:These are my current favourites. They have a vintage feel about them, but with an edge. They’re sturdy so I can toss them my backpack or travel bag when I’m on the run.
