What’s in my travel bag: Christian Louboutin
Written by Libby Banks
The superstar shoe designer reveals his essential travel items, and tells us why the women of Qatar inspire him. Just don’t ask him where he goes on holiday.
“I love the sun, the one true vitamin. There are a few places I go to that allow me to escape the madness of the fashion industry. You have to keep these places secret, so I’m afraid I won’t be giving you any of my hideaway addresses! The next places on my travel itinerary are New York City for my friends’ 25th wedding anniversary, and then it’s on to India for work.
“I love Qatar; I have been there three times in the last few years and it changes drastically every time I go. The Museum of Islamic Art is fantastic; the Pei building is a masterpiece. Qatari women have a strong sense of how to put themselves together; the way they walk is always very feminine and they have such extreme intensity in their eyes.”
Otis Batterbee eye mask
“A thick blackout eye mask to help me sleep.” Perfect for the global traveller, this eye mask has a pinch of British lavender to sooth tired eyes and aid sleep and deep relaxation.

A slick and sporty take on the backpack, made of black and blue mesh, trimmed with black grained leather, and finished with the designer’s iconic black spikes across the front pocket.
Christian Louboutin Sailor python and leather skate shoes
The designer’s Sailor skate shoes are crafted from panels of cream python, and white and metallic-gold leather, trimmed in black leather. An ideal blend of comfort and style.

“I always bring at least two books. If I’m bored by one, I read the second.” This stunning volume, with its elaborate and intricate pop-ups and gorgeous photography, perfectly evokes the artistry of Louboutin’s aesthetic.
Cutler & Gross tortoiseshell square-framed optical glasses
“Two pairs of prescription glasses are essential; I always lose one set on the plane. Always.” The shape of these glasses is just a little retro and the colours bold and stylish. Handcrafted in Italy, these frames will last a lifetime (provided you don’t lose them...).
