The British mountaineer reveals what travels with him to Everest.

Many of us dream of climbing Mount Everest at some point in our lives – British mountaineer Kenton Cool has reached the top of the world’s highest mountain 12 times, more than anyone else in Europe. It takes years of training and experience to know how to approach Everest safely, and when he isn’t in the Himalayas, Kenton can be found sharpening his skills elsewhere. “I spend a lot of time in the Alps, where my tour company, Dream Guides, is based,” he says. “But even just getting out to the mountains in the British Isles can be spectacular.” Everest will always be a special place for him though, and when he plans his next visit these trusty items will once again be bundled into his backpack.

Adidas eyewear: A vital piece of kit for me in the mountains when I have the intense sunlight beaming down on me. They are wraparound with a durable design.

Cuddly mouse: This is Stripy Mouse, who I’ve had since I was a baby. He’s never left my side – even when climbing Everest. That makes him the world’s foremost mountaineering mouse. However tough it gets up there, a quick hug from Stripy always makes things better.

Grenson shoes: Good footwear is something you can’t overlook. These are always in my bag and suit any occasion. Well, probably not Everest at 8,000m.

Bremont Supermarine watch: The Supermarine is one of Bremont’s signature watches, and I’ve worn it to Everest three times now. It’s super-reliable and rugged enough to survive anything.

Goal Zero Nomad solar panel: There aren’t any plug sockets on Everest, so this is how I keep my electrical items charged. It’s easy to stash away, and the sunlight is pretty powerful when you’re up in the mountains, so it charges what I need in no time.

Torq recovery bars: I get through a lot of these on the mountains and in the gym, so they are always in my bag. They help my muscles recover, ready for the next day. Protein is really important, so I always make sure I have the right nutrition available to me.
