What’s in my travel bag: Monique Lhuillier
Written by Oryx
The Filipino-born, American-based fashion designer Monique Lhuillier talks to Ayesha Khan about her absolute must-have items when travelling.
The year was 1995, and bride-to-be Monique Lhuillier was on the hunt for the perfect wedding gown for her special day. Surprised by the lack of fashion-forward options, Lhuillier vowed to change the bleak outlook for brides and debuted her line of bridal couture in 1996. Five years later, she had her own LA flagship store and was a mainstay on red carpets across Hollywood. Her empire has since grown to include ready-to-wear, eveningwear, and even linens, fine paper, and home fragrances.
“I’m constantly inspired by my travels and love to explore and experience the culture, art, and architecture in each place I visit. Istanbul has to be one of the most exotic places I have travelled to – from the grand architecture, to centuries-old artistry, vibrant sounds, smells, offerings, and stunning cityscapes – it was simply breathtaking. Inspiration during my travels often translates into my collection and can be seen in various ways – from the colours selected to different silhouettes or embroideries – this was certainly the case with Istanbul! Next, I am off to the Amalfi Coast and Venice.”

Goop Revitalizing Day Moisturizer, Luminous Melting Cleanser, and Sonya Dakar Daily Body Shield SPF 30:It’s so important to stay hydrated and to keep your skin moisturised while travelling.
Monique Lhuillier Bianca handbag in Cherry Red:I like to travel with ease; the less fussy the better for me. Not only does this bag fit everything I need, but it also has a flap front for easy access while I’m on the go.
