What’s in my travel bag: Samuel Wongso
Written by Oryx
Samuel Wongso is the go-to tailor for Indonesia’s socialites, celebrities, and dignitaries. Together with his brother Stephen Wongso, and his cousin Jonathan Wongso, he represents the fourth generation of Wong Hang, distinguished tailors since 1933 and suit makers to Indonesia’s high-profile business magnates and officials, including President Joko Widodo himself.
Ever eager to sharpen his skills, Samuel uses his holidays to absorb the trends abroad. He travels regularly to London, Paris, Milan, and Florence; his favourite Asian destination is Hong Kong in the winter.
“When I visit the Middle East, I always come home with at least a few metres of new exotic fabrics to experiment with,” says Sam, recalling recent trips to Qatar and Dubai.
Louis Vuitton Keepall
I use the Keepall Bandoulière 55 in soft Damier Infini leather because it’s stylishly understated and practical, with a generous amount of space inside. I have a smaller Gucci holdall to keep my Samsung Edge smartphone, power bank, passport, and wallet handy.
I always bring a minimum of two pairs of shoes with me, one formal pair and one casual. Currently my favourite casual kicks are a pair of orange camo sneakers by Valentino. My perforated patent leather Wong Hang shoes are my go-to pair for a formal look.
I always bring along my Tom Ford Karlie sunglasses and two pairs of prescription glasses just in case I lose or break a pair. I use Yves Saint Laurent and Zegna frames for my prescription glasses.

PS Vita + Beats
My PS Vita handheld console keeps me entertained on a long-haul flight. I love to kill time playing FIFA football games. I also keep some music and movies on the handheld console for alternative entertainment. I couple the PS Vita with Studio Wireless Beats by Dre headphones for premium sound.
