Spring 2014 edition of New York Fashion Week
Isham Sardouk says that the newest silhouettes presented during the recent Fashion Week in New York were long, rectangular, and constructed “like blocks on blocks”. This trend was spotted at Proenza Schouler, The Row, and Theysken’s Theory. A softer interpretation could be seen at Richard Chai Love, Suno, and Vera Wang, where designers played with long and lean layers.
“Asymmetry was everywhere,” he adds, and the most masterful examples came courtesy of Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, and Reed Krakoff. Head-to-toe immaculate white also dominated, and this was strongest on the runways of Helmut Lang, Derek Lam, and 3.1 Phillip Lim, while “the freshest use of print mixes and mis-matched pattern were at Prabal Gurung and Peter Som”.
When it comes to newer names to watch, Isham says he loved the modern simplicity at Organic by John Patrick, and adds that The Row by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen “looked better than ever”.
