Adrere Amellal
A visit to the Adrere Amellal may be all about getting back to basics and in touch with nature, but there is nothing basic about the elegance and pampering to be found in Siwa’s premier Eco-lodge.
The scenic lake and the majestic White Mountain create the perfect surroundings for a relaxing unique getaway. All villas and rooms are built in the traditional Siwan way using local salt rock and mud and the ceilings are supported by palm tree trunks. Beds and night tables are made from huge salt rocks, Egyptian cotton bed sheets are given a local twist with Siwan embroidery, and blankets (desert nights can be chilly) are hand-woven, un-dyed goat hair. Rather than electricity, all rooms are bathed in beautiful light from candleholders made of traditional Siwan Pottery and natural honeycomb candles, and thanks to the gas heaters you can still take a hot shower. For a more refreshing dip guests can enjoy the natural fresh spring water pool. Dinner is served in a different dining room each night and the exquisite menu follows the environmentally friendly theme by using mostly locally grown, organic produce. ShoppingSiwa offers a unique shopping experience and lots of great things to buy and take back as a memory of your visit. The dates and olives are full of flavour and symbolic of Siwa. Extra virgin olive oil and Siwa Salt from the lakes are sure to enhance any dish you cook once back home. In the Market you can dig (and bargain) to find traditional Siwa embroidered dresses and the blue Melaya embroidered in black with vibrant red, yellow and green. Traditional Siwa baskets, rugs and local pottery are very special and quite different from handicrafts produced in other parts of Egypt. Traditional silver jewelry pieces include rings, necklaces, bracelets and anklets that represent the adornment of Siwan women of all ages. |
