With the Qatar Motor Show opening on February, we also look forward to 2014, when some of the greatest supercars the world has ever seen will go on sale.

While Bugatti may have made headlines with its Veyron, Swedish company Koenigsegg has been quietly working away in the background, amassing Guinness World Records for acceleration and deceleration. Its latest hypercar, the Agera R, is a 1,140hp monster that cannot be ignored; the noise it makes certainly proves that.

Price: US$1.7 million

Top speed: 440kph

Porsche set itself a goal with its 918 Spyder: 3.0L/100km fuel consumption and a Nurburgring lap time of under seven minutes. It recently announced both had been achieved, proving speed doesn’t come at the cost of the environment. With a hybrid drivetrain packing 900hp, it will be tackling the P1 head on, but with 875hp running through four wheels instead of two, it’s a completely different animal.

Price: US$845,000
0–100kph: 2.6 seconds
Top speed: 345kph

Its name may be unusual, but the LaFerrari’s performance can’t be made fun of. Eschewing McLaren and Porsche’s penchant for V8s, the LaFerrari uses the more traditional V12 along with an electric motor. As you’d expect, its power is prodigious. With 950hp and weighing not much more than a light hatchback, it lives up to its pedigree. But with only 499 examples being made available, you’ll have to be handpicked by Ferrari to own one.

Price: US$1.7 million

Top speed: 370kph

Although it went on sale last year, the Huayra is still one of the most captivating supercars on sale. Despite Pagani being a relative unknown a few years ago, the company’s obsession with perfection and attention to detail has seen it become a formidable manufacturer. With a twin-turbo V12 making 700hp, it’s an automotive work of art that drives as well as it looks.

Price: US$1.4 million
0–100kph: 3.3 seconds
Top speed: 372kph
