Apple’s new operating system takes a little getting used to, but it is chock-full of handy little tools and other benefits… if you know where to look!

Level
Open the Compass app and swipe your finger across it to access a new digital ‘level’ feature. Now go hang some pictures!

Night mode for maps
The Apple Maps app’s near-blinding old display has been replaced by a darker, less distracting interface at certain times.

Block calls
Visit Settings > Phone > Blocked to add numbers you want to restrict.

Create new events from iMessage
Inside iMessage, typing something such as ‘Dinner at 7 on Thursday’ will underline ‘7 on Thursday’. Tap the underlined text and you can create a calendar event.

Auto focus with shutter button (iPhone 5S only)
Just briefly press the volume up button and the familiar auto-focus square will appear.

The .com Button is NOT gone
Many thought the .com button was gone inside Safari. It’s not. Simply press and hold the ‘.’ key and a .com, .net, .us, and .edu selection pops up.

Message peeking
In Mail or iMessage, you can slightly swipe to your right to reveal a peek at the message list below.

Rapid shot photos
Press and hold the volume up or down button from the camera app for dozens of consecutive shots.
