plan ahead - June

Oryx presents its insider’s tips for places to visit in June. As temperatures rise in the Mediterranean, we check out some great coastal holidays.
June is an ideal time to explore the Amalfi Coast, as the weather is a balmy 26°C on average and high season is yet to reach its peak. Sail to the picture-postcard village of Positano with its pastel-coloured homes nestled into the rocks, and on to the whitewashed fishing village of Praiano, the narrow cove of the Furore fjord, and Conca dei Marini – home to the shimmering green waters of the Emerald Grotto sea cave. Amalfi itself is a charming town of winding alleyways, steps, and bustling squares, and further inland the more peaceful town of Ravello perches above the coastline with some of the most stunning views.
With 13 hours of sunshine a day and average temperatures of 24°C, June is an ideal month to visit Santorini. On the main island visit the capital Fira for a breathtaking cable-car ride, explore Akrotiri – a Minoan Bronze Age settlement, and experience the amazing sunsets in the attractive village of Oia.
Croatia features 1,800km of coastline along the turquoise Adriatic, dotted with major towns and cities, and attractive rivieras. Don’t miss Dubrovnik’s medieval walled Old Town or the imposing ruins of Diocletian’s palace in Split, now a bustling quarter. Between the two cities, the Makarska Riviera is home to some of the country’s best beaches.
