plan ahead - March
Written by Oryx
Oryx presents its insider’s tips for places to visit in March.
Explore ancient history in Jordan, take in the beautiful scenery in Cape Town, and spot the newborn wildlife on an African safari in Kenya.
Ancient sites of Jordan
The best time to visit Jordan is spring (March–May); in March average temperatures hover between 12°C in the north and 19°C in the south. A tour of the capital city Amman will allow you to discover the city’s much older past. Be sure to include the Citadel, Jordan Museum, the restored Roman Theatre, and the Jordan Folklore Museum in your itinerary. Further south, the ancient city of Petra is Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. The breathtaking World Heritage Site includes hundreds of elaborate buildings that were carved into the pink-hued rock more than 2,000 years ago.

Picturesque Cape Town
From around November to March, whilst it rains in the rest of southern Africa, the Cape is hot, sunny, and dry. Take in the picturesque coastline of False Bay, visit the underground wonder of the Cango Caves, and see cheetahs and other big cats at the nearby Cango Wildlife Ranch.

March falls at the end of Kenya’s shorter dry season and is a good time to take a safari. The Masai Mara National Reserve has excellent game all year round, and March is a great time to spot newborn animals. Just outside Nairobi, don’t miss the Langata Giraffe Centre and adjoining Giraffe Manor hotel.
