Oryx presents its insider’s tips for places to visit in May.
Soak up the sun in Cyprus, avoid the crowds in Rome and Florence, and enjoy clear skies and culture in Croatia.
Sun in Cyprus
The weather in Cyprus is easy to predict: its location in the Mediterranean leads it to enjoy a fairly typical sunny climate; however, its proximity to southwest Asia makes it one of the hottest parts of the Mediterranean region, and on the whole it remains very sunny throughout the year. In May, when temperatures hover between 17°C and 25°C, it’s an ideal time to enjoy nature, explore the countryside, and visit the archaeological sites. For a beach holiday there are secluded bays, sandy shores, and rocky coves. You could even use the island as a base for a short cruise to other nearby countries.

The best time to visit the cities of Rome and Florence is away from the peak summer period of June to August. May is extremely good as temperatures vary between 17°C and 23°C, making it a lovely time for exploring the countryside and hill towns of Tuscany, and for enjoying the simple yet delicious cuisine.
