Qatar Airways Holidays - September
Written by Oryx
Oryx presents its insider’s tips for places to visit in September. Explore Venice after the summer crowds have dispersed, and make the most of Jordan’s cooler temperatures and San Francisco’s warmer temperatures in autumn.
Although temperatures in Venice start to decline slightly in September, it’s still warm – with average temperatures of 20°C – and the tourist crowds are dwindling after the summertime high season. Climb the Campanile di San Marco (bell tower) for breathtaking city panoramas from the top before exploring the glittering mosaics of Basilica di San Marco itself, then head next door to discover the fascinating history of the Doge’s Palace. For art lovers, the Accademia galleries feature one of the best collections of Old Masters paintings in Italy, and of course a trip to Venice wouldn’t be complete without a cruise along its famed canals.

Typical autumn weather, which only lasts from around mid-September to mid-November, marks the shift out of high summer in Jordan with slightly cooler temperatures, and can be a lovely time to visit. Jordan’s gems include the rose-red city of Petra, the Dead Sea, and the vast Wadi Rum.

Autumn in San Francisco is the best time of year. From September to November, days are warm and sunny, nights are mild and clear, rainfall is rare, and the fog has cleared. Ride a cable car, visit Fisherman’s Wharf, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, and take a trip to Alcatraz.
