Dresses to die for, suits of suave sophistication, a fantasy of frocks: it must be September, when fashion weeks in the world’s style capitals showcase the latest in spring and summer collections.

London

Fashion Week

Fashionistas, designers, and journalists alike come to London from September 14 to 18 for one of the most important fashion shows in the world. Top designers strut their latest on catwalks at historic Somerset House on the banks of the Thames, where exhibitions also showcase some 150 designers. The trade event is followed by London Fashion Weekend, which is open to the public. Those in the know also head to unofficial ‘off-schedule’ fashion shows and events at other venues across the city.

Vienna

MQ Fashion Week

The Austrian capital’s fabulous Museums Quarter is normally about superlative art but, from September 12 to 16, fashion takes centre stage when over 80 designers show their new collections at fashion shows in a courtyard marquee. There’s also a sales area nearby where, from September 13, the public can check out, try on, and buy the latest in designer wear.

New York

Fashion Week

In 1943, New York hosted the first ever organised fashion week event, which is still going strong, and this year runs from September 6 to 13 at the Lincoln Center. Some 100,000 industry insiders and celebrities get together to admire the collections of over 80, mostly American, designers in what is the city’s largest media event.

Milan

Moda Donna

Women’s Fashion Week runs from September 19 to 25 in Milan and is one of the world’s top fashion extravaganzas. Grand historical palazzi, medieval loggias and cultural venues in the city centre’s fashion district form an impressive backdrop to events showcasing spring and summer 2013 collections. There are upwards of 230 shows and fashion presentations from the most important Italian haute couture establishments to the latest up-and-comers: just the place to spot the next Giorgio Armani.
