luxe shopping - 51 East, Doha, Qatar
Written by Ayesha Khan
Unlike any other department store of its kind, Doha’s 51 East is literally a one-stop shop for luxury.
With outlets at Al Maha Center and City Center Doha, 51 East is the latest retail venture of Qatar’s own Darwish Holdings. There is an air of refined sophistication, but the staff are not at all snobbish; rather, they are friendly and helpful, and make it their business to help you find what you’re looking for.
The brand mix at this luxury haven covers everything from men’s and women’s apparel to jewellery and electronics. Iconic names such as Armand Nicolet (exquisite Swiss watchmakers) and Andrew Gn (a Singapore-born, Paris-based designer known for his intricate embroidery) sit alongside renowned haute couturiers Chanel and Balmain, offering something for even the most discerning customer. Representing the fine heritage of the region, 51 East also carries the mystical fragrances of Omani parfumeur Amouage.
For gadget buffs, there is an array of carefully chosen electronics brands such as Apple, Bose, and HTC, showcasing the latest technology from computers to speakers and mobile phones. Ladies, this might come in handy to entice your significant other into accompanying you on your shopping expedition!
51 East is one of the only retailers in the region that carries the time-honoured jewellery brand Fabergé. Founded by Russian jeweller Peter Carl Fabergé, the company is perhaps best known for its bejewelled eggs, created for the Tsars of Russia. Since the Russian revolution, the original pieces have now become multi-million dollar collectors’ items. Today, creative director Katharina Flohr carries on the Fabergé tradition of unique jewellery, timepieces, and, of course, exquisite eggs.
