spa - Arena di Serdica Wellness Club, Sofia
Written by Caroline Sylger Jones
The Wellness Club at the luxurious Arena di Serdica hotel is a calm, contemporary place at which to recover after a flight.
Notable for its relaxation area, the Wellness Club is built inside the curving, ancient walls of the Roman amphitheatre of Serdica. Marvellously, the theatre’s remains were uncovered during the hotel’s construction in 2004, and the area is now a calming place to relax after a treatment, with scented candles and soothing music. A range of aromatherapy, toning, and deep tissue massages are on the menu here, as well as body wraps, facials, and holistic therapies such as reflexology and reiki. There’s an oval-shaped sauna where you can sweat out your toxins, a herbal steam bath, a modern gym, and a vertical solarium for a little boost of sun.
For a treat, book a signature ritual such as the Arena di Serdica, which comprises a massage with a mix of honey, milk, herbs, and essential oils, a wash-down in the steam with scented water, and a second, nurturing massage with milk and honey. Contact
