Soldier of marathon

An exquisite bronze of the Greek soldier Phidippides whose historic 26-mile run, from Marathon to Athens, gave birth to the modern marathon. Cast in Paris in the late 19th century by the famed Barbedienne foundry, the bronze is 94cm high by 107cm wide. The original was sculpted in marble by Cortot for King Louis-Philippe and is now at the Louvre, Paris.
