wish list - Time Pieces
Written by Oryx
Qatar Airways now flies daily to Geneva – where time truly is of the essence. There’s an understood elegance, a certain air of class inherent in the phrase ‘Swiss watch’.
And Geneva is watch country, where the best timepieces in the world – made in Switzerland or otherwise – can be found. Visit the series of exclusive boutiques on rue du Mont Blanc and rue de la Croix d’Or, as well as rue du Rhone. These are Geneva’s main shopping streets, and your examination of their contents will leave you spellbound.
Harry Winston - Opus 11
From the ‘Jeweller to the Stars’ comes the Opus series of what can best be described as ‘complicated’ watches. The structure of the Opus 11 features three overlapping dials that are based on three distinct levels, configured to break down time into hours and minutes while showing the inner workings of the titanium balance wheel. The main dial includes 24 mobile pallets that meld into the number of the hour by rotating into place, yielding a handless face.
Christophe Claret - 21 BlackJack Watch
Clearly made with the casino lover in mind. But blackjack isn’t the only offering, as dice and roulette are part of the package as well. And it’s all powered by an automatic movement comprising 40 jewels, 501 parts, 7 double ceramic ball-bearing mechanisms, and a power reserve of 72 hours. Only 21 of these watches have been created, available in titanium black PVD, white gold, rose gold, and platinum.
MB&F – Horological Machine No. 3 Chocolate Frog
This year marks the 10th anniversary of ThePuristS.com family of horology websites, which prompted several watchmakers to issue limited edition, unique watches in their honour. The first of these to be announced was MB&F’s Chocolate Frog – a limited edition of ten pieces encased in chocolate PVD-coated Grade 5 titanium with an engraved red gold rotor. The matte finish of the titanium meshes with polished areas in the focal part, as well as with the shininess of the large sapphire crystal ‘eyes’. Clever and unquestionably unique.
Graff – Diamond Swan Watch
Graff merges watchcraft and spectacular jewellery in the classic tradition of hidden watches. The swan rests gracefully on a diamond bracelet composed of a wave of 832 white diamonds. Nestled beneath the swan’s wing is a delicate timepiece whose grace and style complement the glamorous nature of the bracelet within which it sits. This whimsical piece is set with over 900 diamonds at nearly 55 carats.
